QUDICE is present at the Space Tech Expo Europe in Bremen
The Generalitat de Catalunya, in conjunction with the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC), proudly presented the “NewSpace Catalonia” stand at Space Tech Expo Europe 2023, widely recognized as Europe’s leading fair for space technology and services. Furthermore, Bremen, Germany, serves as the annual host of the expo, and its 6th edition successfully drew over 650 exhibitors from more than 40 countries.
Alongside companies such as ASE Optics Europe, isardSAT, Kreios Space and Osmium, ICFO seized the opportunity to participate, representing the diverse projects related to Quantum communications in Space in which it is involved. Moreover, over the three-day congress, QUDICE partners Álvaro Cuevas, a postdoctoral researcher at ICFO, and Victor Herrero, from ICFO’s Technology Transfer unit, actively demonstrated the developing technology for the QUDICE project to all stand visitors. Ultimately, their goal was to raise awareness among attendees about emerging quantum technologies, particularly Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), as well as its integration into current space technology for secure space communications.
About New Space Catalonia
The ‘NewSpace Catalonia’ stand is an initiative framed within the NewSpace Strategy of Catalonia, promoted by the Department of Business and Work of the Generalitat de Catalunya, in collaboration with the IEEC, the i2CAT Foundation and the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC). This collaboration seeks to project the industrial, innovation and talent generation capabilities of the Catalan ecosystem to the world.
In conclusion, the “NewSpace Catalonia” stand initiative not only emphasized the potential for synergy between the space and digital sectors, but also highlighted both as strategic drivers of the new space economy. Additionally, the initiative showcased the strengths of the NewSpace Strategy of Catalonia and the sectors involved in this ecosystem, alongside the participating institutions.
